Basketball Recap: Williamstown Falls Short of West Rutland in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Williamstown can now relate to. They took a 55-38 bruising from the West Rutland Golden Horde on Monday. The matchup marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Williamstown's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Mascitti, who posted five points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Evan Bailey, who scored ten points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Williamstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Williamstown moved to 18-7 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for West Rutland, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.
