Softball Preview: Brunswick Academy Vikings vs. Southampton Academy Raiders

Brunswick Academy is 9-1 against Southampton Academy since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Brunswick Academy Vikings will face off against the Southampton Academy Raiders at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Brunswick Academy is headed out to face Southampton Academy after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Brunswick Academy was the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Fuqua on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row dating back to last season.

Avery Griffin made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Olivia Ann Evans was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Lexi Vaughan Howerton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Brunswick Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fuqua only posted a batting average of .111.

Meanwhile, Southampton Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Amelia Academy a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday.

Like Brunswick Academy, Southampton Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Dutchess Rose. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rose was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Reagan Webb was a standout: she scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Layla Weaver, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Everything went Brunswick Academy's way against Southampton Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Brunswick Academy made off with a 16-1 victory.
