Basketball Recap: Matthew Rivlin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Covenant Day + How To Watch

Marvin Ridge lost to Covenant Day back in November of 2019, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Mavericks came out on top against the Lions by a score of 63-55.

Marvin Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Rivlin, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Rivlin a new career-high. Henry Smith was another key player, shooting 42% from the field on his way to 18 points and six boards.

Marvin Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Micah Huffman, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 15 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Thurman, who shot 60% from the field en route to 16 points.

Marvin Ridge now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Covenant Day, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Marvin Ridge will venture away from home to face off against Charlotte Country Day School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks' defense better be ready for this one: the Buccaneers have averaged an impressive 56 points per game this season. As for Covenant Day, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-55 defeat against Huss on the 29th.
