Softball Game Preview: West Carteret Patriots vs. White Oak Vikings

West Carteret is a perfect 10-0 against White Oak since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Patriots are taking a road trip to square off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. West Carteret's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so White Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Wednesday, West Carteret earned a 6-2 victory over Havelock. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.

Caitlin Dumarce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Saylor Gray, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Millie Kate Young, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for White Oak's offense. They came up short against Croatan on Tuesday, falling 12-0. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

White Oak now has a losing record of 7-8. As for West Carteret, their win bumped their record up to 14-1.

West Carteret took their victory against White Oak when the teams last played last Tuesday by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
