Basketball Recap: Janae Carter Key Part of a Team Effort in Cavaliers Win

After losing to Hickory the last time they met, Lakeland decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lakeland Cavaliers managed a 51-45 win over the Hickory Hawks on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cavaliers.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakeland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Janae Carter, who almost dropped a triple-double on 18 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. Those nine boards gave Carter a new career-high. Aubrianna Paiz was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 14 points.

Lakeland's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-10. As for Hickory, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Oscar Smith the next time they take the court. Hickory will host Oscar Smith at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while Lakeland will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
