Basketball Recap: Avary Monroe Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Marion

Mesick won the last time they faced Marion and things went their way on Friday too. The Mesick Bulldogs walked away with a 34-21 victory over the Marion Eagles.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mesick to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avary Monroe, who posted two points and 22 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Monroe a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Madi Putney, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Mesick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 21 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Mesick's win bumped their record up to 4-15. As for Marion, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

Coming up, Mesick will face off against Northern Michigan Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northern Michigan Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Mesick surely won't give up without a fight. As for Marion, they will head out on the road to face off against Cadillac Heritage Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
