Basketball Recap: Waverly Comes Up Short

Waverly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 92-37 loss at the hands of the Wahoo Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Warriors are ranked 12th).

When it comes to explaining why Waverly lost, don't look at Isaac Clarke. Despite the final result, he posted eight points. Brockston Teply was another key player, putting up five points.

Wahoo was led to victory by Dylan Simons and Cody Hesser. Simons went 6 of 9 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and four steals, while Hesser went 5 for 7 en route to 12 points along with six steals and five assists. The match was Simons' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Glock, who had eight points.

Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Wahoo, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Waverly didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-50 win against Standing Bear on the 24th. As for Wahoo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nebraska City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wahoo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.7 points per game this season.
