Basketball Recap: Nunamiut Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Nunamiut took a 40-point loss the last time they faced off against Fort Yukon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Nunamiut Amaguq sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 70-67 victory over the Fort Yukon Eagles on Monday. The Amaguq's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Nunamiut found their leader in sophomore Kevin Gordon, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gordon has scored all season. Tyler Hugo was another key player, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ben Carroll, who posted 24 points. The match was Carroll's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marsten Capelli, who had 16 points.

Nunamiut's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. As for Fort Yukon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Nunamiut beat Fort Yukon by a score of 57-50 on Tuesday.
