Basketball Recap: Craig Starts off Right with Win over Klawock

Craig had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They took down the Klawock Chieftains 36-19. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 26-24 win the Chieftains walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Sara Steffen was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds. She has been hot, having posted 14 or more boards the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Smith, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points.

Despite the loss, Klawock still got an impressive performance from Kaiya Marvin, who posted seven points and eight blocks.

Craig wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-29 victory against Tournament Team on the 21st. As for Klawock, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 25-19 win against Ketchikan on the 20th.
