Baseball Game Preview: Pepin/Alma Eagles vs. Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs

The Pepin/Alma Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pepin/Alma has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight defeats, while Melrose-Mindoro will come in with three straight victories.

On Tuesday, Pepin/Alma came up short against Independence/Gilmanton and fell 8-4.

Meanwhile, while Melrose-Mindoro put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Alma Center Lincoln. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Red Raiders. Fans of the Mustangs have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Colton Koss made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Melrose-Mindoro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alma Center Lincoln only managed one.

Melrose-Mindoro's record now sits at 3-0. As for Pepin/Alma, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Pepin/Alma might still be hurting after the 20-2 defeat they got from Melrose-Mindoro in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
