Softball Recap: Kouts Mustangs & Fillies vs. Rensselaer Central Bombers
Kouts extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping their season record down to 7-13 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Rensselaer Central Bombers. The Mustangs & Fillies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bombers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
Kouts saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Tikalsky, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
As for Rensselaer Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.
On Rensselaer Central's side, Kali Northcutt was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Northcutt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kami Davis was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynn Hannon, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Kouts is taking a road trip to face off against North Judson-San Pierre at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bluejays have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.32 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs & Fillies will no doubt try to take advantage of. Rensselaer Central has already played their next contest (against North White), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
