Basketball Game Preview: Laurel Spartans vs. Whitman Vikings

The Laurel Spartans will challenge the Whitman Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Laurel knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 22 matchups -- so hopefully Whitman likes a good challenge.

Laurel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 64-52 victory over Meade. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by exactly 12 points.

Meanwhile, Whitman had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 55-44.

Whitman's win bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Laurel, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.

Laurel and Whitman were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, but Laurel came up empty-handed after a 73-72 loss. Can Laurel avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
