Mogollon has gone 8-2 against St. Johns recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Redskins at 2:00 p.m. Mogollon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Mogollon is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Hayden just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 13-5 to the Lobos. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mustangs have suffered since March 22, 2024.
Yoyo Suarez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between St. Johns and Northland Prep Academy, and St. Johns kept the tradition alive. The Redskins put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 15-1 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won seven matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Everett McFee and Ethan Skousen were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, McFee pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Skousen pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of St. Johns' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 6-9-1 when he doesn't). At the plate, McFee went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Skousen went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Skousen has launched this season.
In other batting news, T Platt was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for St. Johns: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of McKray Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
St. Johns always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Mogollon's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 16-4. As for St. Johns, the victory got them back to even at 11-11-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mogollon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like St. Johns struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Mogollon's way against St. Johns when the teams last played back in March, as Mogollon made off with a 7-1 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redskins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
