Recap: Dr. Krop Lightning vs. Coral Reef Barracudas
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 12 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Dr. Krop Lightning proved on Thursday. They escaped with a win against Coral Reef by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. This was payback for Dr. Krop, who suffered a 60-59 loss the last time these two teams met.
Joseph Washington continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 30 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The contest was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Ferguson, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Coral Reef's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathaniel Wesley, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Yvon Mbenza was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Dr. Krop now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Coral Reef, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Dr. Krop will head out on the road to face off against Don Soffer Aventura at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Don Soffer Aventura focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. Coral Reef will be home for the holidays to greet Miami Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Averaging 74.8 so far this season, Miami Christian's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Coral Reef better be ready for a challenge.
