Two-way standout helped Sheyenne win first state title since 2021.
Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Kade Pietrzak of
Sheyenne (West Fargo) is the 2024 MaxPreps North Dakota High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound senior defensive lineman and offensive tackle helped the Mustangs go 10-2 and bring home the Division AAA state championship.
Pietrzak dominated on both sides of the ball, leading Sheyenne to wins in its final seven games and outscoring opponents 87-30 in the postseason.
Also a member of the program's 2021 state championship team, Pietrzak suffered an injury in the title game but still played a role in Sheyenne's 24-14 victory over Fargo Davies (Fargo).
Regarded as a four-star prospect by
247Sports, Pietrzak committed to Nebraska in July over 26 other FBS and FCS offers and is the top-rated player in North Dakota.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
