The Northwest Area Rangers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Wyoming Valley West Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wyoming Valley West took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Northwest Area, who comes in off a win.
Northwest Area is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Hanover Area. Northwest Area put the hurt on Hanover Area with a sharp 19-2 victory on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Rangers have beaten the Hawkeyes on their field since April 24, 2017.
Jenna Robaczewski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Robaczewski was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Jordin Bowman and Ashlyn Hermanofski did most of the damage at the plate: Bowman scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Hermanofski went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Bowman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addisyn Diltz, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Northwest Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in six consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Holy Redeemer on Thursday, falling 12-4. The Spartans have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Wyoming Valley West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Long, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Northwest Area skirted past Wyoming Valley West 10-9 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Does Northwest Area have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wyoming Valley West turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
