El Monte and Rosemead are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Lions will face off against the Panthers at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. El Monte is looking for their season's first win.

On Friday, El Monte didn't have quite enough to beat Gabrielino and fell 6-5.

Rafael Lopez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, El Monte saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Aleman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Jaime Hernandez was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Rosemead fell victim to Arroyo and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 7-0 to the Knights. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly seven runs.

El Monte's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Rosemead, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

El Monte might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Rosemead in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
