Basketball Recap: Amare Anderson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greer over James F. Byrnes

Greer lost against James F. Byrnes last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Greer Yellow Jackets took a 71-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James F. Byrnes Rebels. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Rebels are ranked third).

Greer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AmAre Anderson, who posted 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Anderson's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Mylan Hames was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Greer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

James F. Byrnes got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Evan Enos out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Colt Fowler, who had 15 points along with six assists and five boards.

Greer has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for James F. Byrnes, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Greer and Gaffney will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greer is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season. As for James F. Byrnes, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 89-60 victory against Hueytown on the 14th.
