Softball Recap: Lakeland Hawks vs. Timberlake Tigers
After flying high against Sandpoint last Thursday, Lakeland came back down to earth. The Hawks lost 10-1 to the Timberlake Tigers on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Hawks have suffered since March 18th.
Abby Helmholz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-6. As for Timberlake, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Lakeland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-8 loss against Frenchtown on the 12th. As for Timberlake, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Medical Lake at 2:00 p.m. The Tigers are on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Cardinals a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
