Basketball Recap: New Albany's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but New Albany unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 60-50 to the Southaven Chargers.

New Albany lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Amari Hubbard, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. Hubbard has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Decorion Hardin, who put up 13 points.

Even though they lost, New Albany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Southaven was led to victory by Jayven Welch and Caden Johnson. Welch went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points and seven rebounds, while Johnson went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points and five boards. Johnson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Hammond, who had three points and three steals.

New Albany's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Southaven, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

New Albany didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 88-55 victory against Myrtle on the 2nd. As for Southaven, they will face off against Lewisburg at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Southaven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.
