Softball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Starts Season with Victory at Home

Haddam-Killingworth gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Valley Regional Warriors as they made off with a 10-2 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Emma Giaccone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks.

On the hitting side, Grace LaConte was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Natanzon, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI.

Haddam-Killingworth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Regional only posted an OBP of .259.

Having lost for the first time this season, Valley Regional fell to 2-1.

Haddam-Killingworth has already played their next matchup, a 22-0 victory against Portland on the 10th. As for Valley Regional, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-0 loss against North Branford on the 11th.
