The Cowanesque Valley Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Southern Columbia Area Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Cowanesque Valley had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least 31 points, but Montgomery put an end to it on Friday. The Indians took a hard 21-6 fall against the Red Raiders. The Indians' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Even if they lost, Cowanesque Valley's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Kegan Lane refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. Cowanesque Valley got some further help from Luke Sottolano: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Southern Columbia Area had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.9 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They claimed a resounding 61-28 win over the Braves. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Braves are ranked 304th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southern Columbia Area's win came from a few key players Cowanesque Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brayden Andrews, who rushed for 164 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. His longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards. Joey Williams helped out on the ground, rushing for 82 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Southern Columbia Area was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 442 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Southern Columbia Area, racking up 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Caius Morrow, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from Andrews.
Cowanesque Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Southern Columbia Area, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Cowanesque Valley has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 215.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southern Columbia Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 290.1 rushing yards.
