Softball Recap: Ben Davis Takes a Loss

Ben Davis dropped their record down to 10-10 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 10-4 to the Roncalli Royals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Giants of the 16-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Ben Davis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Gilliland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Hannah Waltermire was another, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

As for Roncalli, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

On Roncalli's side, Bennie Leffler was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Leffler has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Curtis, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ben Davis will head out to take on North Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Giants are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Roncalli, they will venture away from home to square off against Franklin Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Royals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flashes have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
