Baseball Recap: Leland Takes a Loss

Leland extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-18 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 13-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

As for Archbishop Mitty, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14. They not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 3rd (when they won 11-0).

For Archbishop Mitty's part, Gabe Lopez and Jay Kim dominated on the mound. Lopez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Kim pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kim has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Felix Chang and Grayson Munoz did most of the damage at the plate: Chang went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Munoz went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Munoz is becoming a predictor of Archbishop Mitty's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 11-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Mak, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Looking ahead, Leland will venture away from home to face off against Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Archbishop Mitty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
