Softball Recap: Roger Bacon Starts Season with Victory Against Northwest

Roger Bacon had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Northwest Knights. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 18-3 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2018.

Kendra Gee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Gee was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ally Hughes, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Lena Vondrell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Northwest is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roger Bacon will take on Archbishop McNicholas at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northwest, they will challenge Anderson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
