Football Recap: Roxana Keeps Breese Central's Under Pressure + How To Watch

Roxana lost against Breese Central back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Shells fell 31-20 to the Cougars. The Shells have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Roxana saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mekhi Shorter rushed for 183 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Those 183 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Shorter.

Even if they lost, Roxana's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Mason Crump, Logan Prater, and Lyndon Thies, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Breese Central was led to victory by Cole Davis and Owen Kehrer. Davis rushed for 130 yards and one TD, while Kehrer threw for 151 yards and one touchdown. Davis also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Login Smith, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Roxana's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Breese Central, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

Meanwhile, Breese Central is set to take on their familiar foe Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Davis and Jase Nelson.
