Football Game Preview: Spring Lake Lakers vs. Hamilton Hawkeyes

The Spring Lake Lakers will face off against the Hamilton Hawkeyes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Spring Lake, who comes in off a win.

Spring Lake is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 56-43 victory over Forest Hills Eastern on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lakers.

Spring Lake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon O'Donnell, who rushed for 86 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 124 yards. Those 124 passing yards gave O'Donnell a new career-high. Mason Herrema was another key rusher, rushing for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Spring Lake was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 376 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hamilton fought the good fight in their overtime game against Christian on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 29-28 to the Eagles.

Hamilton dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Spring Lake, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
