Softball Game Preview: Sugar-Salem Diggers vs. Declo Hornets

The Sugar-Salem Diggers will take on the Declo Hornets at 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Sugar-Salem is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Ten must be Sugar-Salem's lucky number: they beat Filer with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Diggers beat the Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-5.

Kambry Bartholick was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenadee Birch, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Declo came up short against Malad on Wednesday, falling 10-3. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Declo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Graci Wolf, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that Wolf hit this season.

Sugar-Salem pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Declo, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-3.

Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sugar-Salem hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Declo struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
