Baseball Recap: Leo Takes a Loss

Leo had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it six. They fell just short of the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers by a score of 3-2. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Chargers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edwin Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Kyle Jones was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Aurora Central Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 10-10. The win was a breath of fresh air for they as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

On Aurora Central Catholic's side, Matthew Guzauskas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. The Chargers are undefeated when Guzauskas allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Luke Torrence was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

While Leo had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
