Basketball Game Preview: Laurel Spartans vs. Meade Mustangs

The Laurel Spartans will take on the Meade Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Laurel comes in on three and Meade on 21.

Laurel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Mergenthaler Vo-Tech by a score of 74-62. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Mustangs are ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Jermaine Taylor, who went 10-for-16 on his way to 30 points. His big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Brown, who shot 56% from the field en route to 17 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Meade made easy work of Leonardtown on Saturday and carried off a 72-49 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meade's win came from a few key players Laurel will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ashton Turman, who posted 26 points. Those 26 points gave him a new career-high. Keon Scott was another key player, putting up 20 points.

Meade's victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.1 points over those games. As for Laurel, their record now sits at 22-4.
