Emery is 0-3 against Grantsville since May of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Spartans will face off against the Cowboys at 10:00 a.m. Emery will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Emery is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against South Summit by a score of 8-4. Eight seems to be a good number for the Spartans as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kallee Lake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Katelyn Nielson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. TaiLynn Minchey was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Emery hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Summit struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Grantsville got the win against North Sanpete on Thursday by a conclusive 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Cowboys, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hayden Bytheway was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Bytheway was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eden Ressel, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kamry Allen, who earned three runs and one stolen base.
Grantsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 19 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Emery, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Emery hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Grantsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Emery came up short against Grantsville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
