Basketball Recap: Joey Frivaldo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead BASIS - Mesa over Victory Futures Academy

If BASIS - Mesa was feeling good fresh off their 80-50 takedown of Ajo on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. BASIS - Mesa took a 69-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Victory Futures Academy on Wednesday. The loss put an end to BASIS - Mesa's undefeated start to the season.

Several BASIS - Mesa players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joey Frivaldo, who shot 53% from the field en route to 26 points. Frivaldo is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Omari Hester was another key player, going 9-for-19 on his way to 19 points along with five assists and four steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, BASIS - Mesa fell to 2-1. As for Victory Futures Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Coming up, BASIS - Mesa will be home for the holidays to greet Skyline - Gila River at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Victory Futures Academy and Brighton Charter will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
