Erick Valles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Christian Mauk was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. John Kirkland was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.
Cordova always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .806. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Craigmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Raleigh-Egypt. That's two games in a row now that the Chiefs have lost by just one run.
Kavious Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Stiger, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.
The win made it two in a row for Cordova and bumps their season record up to 8-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Craigmont, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
Craigmont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cordova hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .410. It's a different story for Craigmont, though, as they've only averaged .078. Will they be able to contain Cordova's hitters?
Cordova suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Craigmont in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
