Baseball Recap: Charles City Comes Up Short

Charles City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 18-5 to the Cumberland Dukes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 19-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Gavin Stewart put in work no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Stewart was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.

Charles City's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Cumberland, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Charles City will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Northumberland at 5:00 p.m. on the 10th. As for Cumberland, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-3 loss against Randolph-Henry on the 8th.
