Basketball Recap: Hibriten Starts off Right with Win over Watauga

Hibriten took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-39 win over the Watauga Pioneers. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 57-45 victory the Pioneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.

Hibriten's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zoe Rector, who shot 53% from the field to rack up 19 points. That's the most points Rector has posted since back in December of 2024. Aamori Patterson was another key player, going 5-for-9 en route to 12 points in addition to five assists and three blocks.

Watauga lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mia Mitchell, who earned eight points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Mayo, who shot 42% from the field on her way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Coming up, Hibriten will challenge Alexander Central at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watauga, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Avery County at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
