Baseball Recap: Wallace-Rose Hill Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Lenoir, Wallace-Rose Hill was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the American Leadership Academy-Johnston Patriots by a score of 8-3. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Patriots back in February, they had to take a 13-11 loss.

Kaiden Liu was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Wallace-Rose Hill's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 4-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Liu was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caden Gavin, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Khalil Mathis was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Wallace-Rose Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American Leadership Academy-Johnston only posted a batting average of .250.

Wallace-Rose Hill's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for American Leadership Academy-Johnston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Wallace-Rose Hill will head out to challenge North Lenoir at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for American Leadership Academy-Johnston, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Village Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
