Softball Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

Southside dropped their record down to 9-10-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 19-0 to the East Carteret Mariners. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mariners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on Tuesday.

Southside saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily McLean, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. McLean is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for East Carteret, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-13. That looming 19-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On East Carteret's side, Amilya Lewis made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Lewis was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ashley Mintz was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with six stolen bases and four runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Mali Peck was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

As of now, neither Southside nor East Carteret have any future games scheduled.
