Baseball Recap: Elkmont Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Elkmont can now relate to. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Phil Campbell Bobcats on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Red Devils in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Elkmont got a good showing from Jake Hargrove, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Hargrove has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elkmont saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Corder Hobbs, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Elkmont's defeat dropped their record down to 19-12. As for Phil Campbell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season.

While Elkmont had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
