Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. Manchester Lancers
Having just played yesterday, the Powhatan Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Manchester Lancers at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Powhatan has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Manchester will arrive with three straight wins.
Powhatan suffered their biggest defeat since November 27, 2023 on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 66-27 loss at the hands of L.C. Bird. Powhatan was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.
Meanwhile, Manchester faced James River Midlothian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Manchester took down James River Midlothian 61-45 on Thursday.
Powhatan bumped their record down to 3-9 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.8 points per game. As for Manchester, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Powhatan was dealt a bruising 80-13 loss at the hands of Manchester when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Powhatan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
