Basketball Recap: St. Thomas More Comes Up Short

St. Thomas More was the 41-38 winner over Barbe when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Thomas More Cougars took a 37-21 bruising from the Barbe Buccaneers on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked tenth).

When it comes to explaining why St. Thomas More lost, don't look at Ava Roger. Despite the final result, she posted six points in addition to 13 boards and three steals. St. Thomas More is 13-3 when Roger posts eight or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise.

St. Thomas More's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Barbe, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

St. Thomas More will challenge Carencro at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Barbe, they will square off against Jennings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
