Softball Recap: River Ridge Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when River Ridge and Wiregrass Ranch meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The River Ridge Royal Knights fell just short of the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Royal Knights have suffered since March 14, 2024.

Paityn Vanfossen was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Gutauskas, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-3. As for Wiregrass Ranch, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. River Ridge will host Cypress Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Cypress Creek: 3.4, River Ridge: 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Wiregrass Ranch, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Springstead at 7:00 p.m. Wiregrass Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
