Baseball Recap: St. Francis Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

St. Francis had won five straight on the road, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 15-3 to make it six. Everything went their way against the Traverse City Christian Sabres as they made off with an 8-0 victory. The Gladiators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Scout Goldman's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Wildfong, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 matches. Charlie Olivier also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

St. Francis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Traverse City Christian only posted a batting average of .100.

As for Traverse City Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. The game marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Traverse City Christian's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Chinlund, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Francis will welcome Boyne City at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Gladiators are facing the Ramblers at the right time seeing as the Ramblers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Traverse City Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Buckley at 4:15 p.m.
