Preview: Morgan Eagles vs. Meridian Yellowjackets
After two games on the road, Morgan is heading back home. They will take on the Meridian Yellowjackets at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Morgan has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 492 points over their last eight matches.
Morgan stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Kopperl, posting a 69-41 victory on the road. Given Morgan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 765th, while Kopperl is ranked 1628th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morgan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mark Anthony Garcia, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Garcia has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Meridian can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game two weeks ago. They walked away with a 70-57 win over Kopperl. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Morgan's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-1. As for Meridian, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
Morgan took their win against Meridian in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 62-37. Does Morgan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Meridian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
