2A-1 Region IV District 16 recap November 5, 2013

Santa Rosa moved up to 591 from 618 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region IV District 16. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of beating Mathis 34-12.

Santa Rosa added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Pirates, 34-12. The win marks fifth in a row for the Joshua Gonzalez's team.

Odem's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. CJ Romero threw for 87 and 2 touchdowns and Zach Morales had 107 yards receiving. On the ground Derek Candela chipped in 101 yards. Dylan Ceballos helped Odem's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 41 yards.

Michael Everett was a passing and rushing force as the Owls beat Bishop. He completed 6 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 78 yards. Everett's key target this week was Morales, who caught 3 passes for 107 yards.

Romero put up the best numbers in passing as Odem topped the Badgers.

Odem's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Owls feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Everett has thrown for 770 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Morales has 23 catches for 457 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Aransas Pass takes on Mathis. The Panthers are in second place, while Tim Holt's team is in third place.

Andres Martinez's team took down Bishop 48-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Everett ran for 78 yards in the win.
