Basketball Recap: Broadwater Academy Comes Up Short

Broadwater Academy lost against Hampton Christian Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Broadwater Academy Vikings took a blow against the Hampton Christian Academy Warriors, falling 72-41. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Warriors are ranked 108th).

Broadwater Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Kacey Ford and Miranda Smith. Ford posted 16 points, while Smith went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points and six boards. That was a full 39% of Broadwater Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Leah Smith was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Hampton Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Jayla Crosby, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Crosby. McKenzie Lilliston also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Broadwater Academy's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Hampton Christian Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broadwater Academy will face off against Portsmouth Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hampton Christian Academy, they will take on Greenbrier Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hampton Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
