Baseball Recap: Washington's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

After flying high against Oak Forest on Friday, Washington came back down to earth. Washington fell just short of the De Smet Jesuit Spartans by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since March 15, 2024.

Washington got a good showing from Thomas Diederich, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, Diederich posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Dylan McGinnis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Having lost for the first time this season, Washington fell to 2-1. As for De Smet Jesuit, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Washington is taking a road trip to take on Alton at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for De Smet Jesuit, they will venture away from home to challenge Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Edwardsville will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something De Smet Jesuit surely won't give up without a fight.
