Baseball Recap: Ripley Gets the Win

While Ripley's win against Nitro wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 8-7 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Kyler Doss, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Ripley: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. John Cummings was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Ripley and bumps their season record up to 11-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Nitro, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ripley will square off against Point Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Nitro, they will take on Capital at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.48 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
