Basketball Recap: Kiovoney Gilmore's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northeast over Riverdale

Northeast fought the good fight in their overtime match against Riverdale on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverdale Warriors. The Eagles' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kiovoney Gilmore, who went 9 for 16 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jo Sia Harris, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Riverdale, they moved to 1-13 with that win, which also ended their 17-game losing streak.

Northeast won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Rossview at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Riverdale, they will challenge Giles County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Giles County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.
