Baseball Recap: Norris Comes Up Short

Norris had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 17-8 to make it four. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bennington Badgers. Titans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Badgers since on Thursday.

Norris got a good showing from Austin Oelke, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Furthermore, Oelke didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

At the plate, Norris saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan White, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That hit was White's first of the season.

As for Bennington, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

On Bennington's side, Brandt Schmidt tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Schmidt has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Hunter Spencer was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jack Essink, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Norris wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-4 loss against Waverly on the 2nd. Bennington has also already played their next match (against Beatrice), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
