Softball Recap: Brown Deer Takes a Loss

Brown Deer extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They came up short against the South Milwaukee Rockets, falling 16-1. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly 15 runs.

As for South Milwaukee, the win keeps they at an undefeated 8-0. Considering they have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For South Milwaukee's part, Ava Dziondziakowski made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Dziondziakowski was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, South Milwaukee got a massive performance out of Amber Helgren, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that Helgren has hit this season. Sophie Lessard was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brown Deer will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Racine Horlick at 4:30 p.m. on May 7. As for South Milwaukee, they will head out to challenge Milwaukee Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rockets are facing the Red Knights at the right time seeing as the Red Knights are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
